Palmetto Bluff to Donate 122 Acres as Conservation Easement
It is our pleasure to share some very exciting news: Palmetto Bluff will be donating 122 acres of prime waterfront and maritime forest as a conservation easement. This donation allows for walking trails, an innovative "canopy walk" through the treetops, scenic overlooks and many other exciting features. The Conservancy is offering a 10-day Galapagos tour, beginning January 18, 2008, with AAA Travel and International Expeditions (IE), a world leader in ecotourism and nature travel. … The Boat Club fleet has expanded, thanks to the recent addition of a new 10-passenger deck boat named Myrtle. For an annual fee, the Boat Club offers unlimited use of a dozen vessels and is an excellent means of enjoying the Lowcountry waterways without the demands of personally owning a boat. … A new Recycling Program will take effect in September. Property owners will be able to leave their recyclable materials at a drop-off station in the West Wilson parking lot, located off Mount Pelia Road adjacent to the May River Golf Club. Automobile detailing may be scheduled through RT’s Market. The service is available on Tuesdays and Fridays – simply call the market (843.706.3448) by 12:00 p.m. a day in advance to make the arrangements.

“Concerns and Conservation Issues Regarding the May River” will be the topic of this month’s First Friday Program. Conservancy Director Patty Kennedy will provide an overview and history of the pristine May River, and then talk about concerns regarding the river and efforts by our local and state governments to protect it. She will also discuss what you, as a property owner at Palmetto Bluff, can do personally to help. The program begins at 7:00 p.m. at the Chapel on Friday, August 3.

… Give your pooch a weekend to remember with Summer 2007 Dog Camp on August 10-11. Activities include “Whine Down” boat cruises, May River Sandbar Runs, Dog Nutrition (with tasty treats from the Good Dog Bakery), Health and Wellness Education, Temperament Testing, Crafts (tie-dye bandanas, collar decorating, paw prints and dog bowl painting), and entertainment by our Doggie DJ. … The inaugural Palmetto Bluff Mackerel Tournament will be held on Saturday, August 18 and Sunday, August 19. Led by Palmetto Bluff Outfitters, this event is open to anglers of all ages and skill levels, and includes six hours at sea plus a cookout to reap the rewards of everyone’s catch. … A Property Owner Orientation will be held on Friday, August 31 at the River House. Owners will hear from staff members of the Property Owners Association, Palmetto Bluff Club, May River Golf Club, Inn and Conservancy. A continental breakfast will be served from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., followed by the program, lunch and an optional Open House at the Design Review Center. … The renowned Asheville Contemporary Dance Theatre will perform an interpretive modern dance on the Wilson Village Green to celebrate Patrick Dougherty’s sculptural installation, “Home Sweet Home.” The program will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 1. The ACDT has performed before a variety of audiences in the U.S. and abroad with the mission of integrating the human and artistic connections that exist between all cultures.

… The Inn’s Resort Service Fees have been reduced for property owners. The fees, which are built into the daily rate and cover bell staff, concierge, housekeeping, gratuity, and golf cart (for West Wilson home rentals only), are as follows for the remainder of 2007: Cottages $15, Wilson homes $17, West Wilson homes $27.

… Invitations have been mailed for the May River Golf Club’s Fall Member-Guest Tournament on October 11-13. The May River Golf Course promises to be in premium condition following its annual summer aerification program, which will require closing of the course for three days on August 6-8.

... A Habitat Review Workshop will be held on September 6-7. This Conservancy program is designed to introduce property owners to the Lowcountry environment. South Carolina Electric & Gas (SCE&G) has committed to constructing a new substation that will have one circuit dedicated exclusively to Palmetto Bluff. The substation is tentatively planned for completion in spring 2008 and will remedy the problem of power outages that occasionally occur on the property.

… Save the date: The annual Palmetto Bluff Club Christmas Party will be held on Saturday, December 8 at the River House. Watch for invitations in the mail this fall.
