… Dragonflies of the Lowcountry will be the topic of the First Friday program on Friday, August 1. Oldfield naturalist Marvin Bouknight will discuss these powerful flying predators and the important role they play in our environment. The event begins at 7 p.m. in the Conservancy offices.
… Beginning August 4, Buffalo’s will be open on Monday nights and will feature a special menu (in lieu of the regular dinner menu) that changes each week. Geared toward families, the event allows diners to choose from three grill items, two salads, two vegetables and a starch, two desserts and beverage specials, all for $19 ($12 for children). Additionally, live entertainment will be provided and family-oriented fun and games will be held at the bocce courts and lawn across the street from the restaurant. Buffalo’s is now open on Friday through Monday nights (as opposed to Thursday through Sunday) from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and continues to serve lunch daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

… The May River Golf Course and the May River Grill will be closed on August 11-13. The pro shop and practice areas will remain open while annual maintenance is conducted on the course during this time. The Grill will debut a new menu when it reopens on August 14.
… Breakfast at Tiffany’s will be shown at the Canoe Club Pool on Friday, August 22 beginning at 8:30 p.m. Sponsored by the Palmetto Bluff Arts Commission, this “dive-in movie” offers the opportunity to enjoy a classic film while taking a dip or relaxing poolside. … Introductory clinics for kayaking and rowing will be held on Saturday, August 23 at the Canoe Club. Introduction to Kayaking will begin at 10 a.m. This class features instruction on the fundamentals of safely and properly kayaking on the May River. Introduction to Rowing will begin at 2 p.m. Rowing combines a full-body fitness sport with a recreational activity, offering a complete physical and mental conditioning program all in one. The recreation staff will introduce participants to the sport using sliding-seat row boats on the inland waterway. … A Property Owner Orientation will be held on Friday, August 29 at the Canoe Club Restaurant. Attendees will gain a greater understanding of the Palmetto Bluff Club, Conservancy, Property Owners Association, Inn and May River Golf Club. - Letterboxing – Friday, August 29, 11 a.m. at the Carriage House. Letterboxing is an intriguing mix of treasure hunting, art, navigation and exploration of interesting, scenic and sometimes remote places.
- Alligator Tracking – Saturday, August 30, 9 a.m. A unique opportunity to experience the wilderness of Palmetto Bluff and assist the Conservancy in its ongoing research. Complimentary for property owners. RSVP to 843.706.6515 (by 5 p.m. the day before).

… The May River Golf Club has organized a “road trip” to the TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida on October 5-6. The trip is for golf members and invited guests at a cost of $461.30 per person, which includes welcome reception and dinner, accommodations at the Sawgrass Marriott Resort & Spa (double occupancy), green fee, cart, forecaddie, caddie gratuity, driving range, bag tag with yardage book and all taxes. The itinerary is as follows:
- Sunday, October 5: Leave Palmetto Bluff, lunch at World Golf Hall of Fame, afternoon arrival at Sawgrass Marriott Resort & Spa, free time (pool, cabana & beach club, spa, nine holes of golf, tennis, health club, etc.), welcome reception and dinner (6:30 p.m. - 9 p.m.).
