… The Conservancy’s Amazon Riverboat Voyage on January 16-25, 2009 has only a handful of cabins remaining. The trip is offered in partnership with AAA Vacations and International Expeditions. IE’s 127-foot boat ventures along one of the world’s mightiest rivers, where the rainforest canopy shelters the richest and most diverse ecosystem on earth. ... The Realities and Fictions of Snakes will be the subject of the September First Friday program on September 5. Science and Education Director Kimberly Andrews will discuss and demonstrate the basic identification and biology of our local snake species. The event begins at 5 p.m. on the Wilson Village Green.

… A Property Owner Grace Cruise will take place on September 5 immediately following the First Friday program. Kimberly Andrews will continue her snake discussion on the cruise, which runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A second owner Grace cruise will be held in September, on Friday, September 19. ... Property owners are invited to CPR and AED training and certification with Charles Huggins and the Security Team on Thursday, September 11. The training will be held at the Headwaters Lakehouse from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided. Another training seminar will be held on Thursday, October 8, this one in First Aid and Fire Safety. Coffee with the GM will be held on Saturday, September 13 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Canoe Club Restaurant. This informal monthly gathering enables property owners to meet and discuss issues with General Manager Trip Shine and other members of the Palmetto Bluff Club management team.

… An Introduction to Kayaking clinic will be held on Saturday, September 13 beginning at 10 a.m. This class features instruction on the fundamentals of safely and properly kayaking on the May  River. … Palmetto Bluff will participate in the annual Beach Sweep/River Sweep on Saturday, September 20. The event is the largest one-day litter cleanup of South Carolina’s beaches and waterways. Volunteers should meet at 8 a.m. in front of Buffalo’s, and are encouraged to bring work gloves and wear sturdy shoes or boots. Transportation and trash bags will be provided. … The Canoe Club Pool screening of Breakfast at Tiffany’s was rained out last month and has been rescheduled for Friday, September 26 beginning at 8:00 p.m. Sponsored by the Palmetto Bluff Arts Commission, this “dive-in movie” offers adults 18 and older the opportunity to enjoy a classic film while taking a dip or relaxing poolside. Complimentary refreshments will be provided.

Astronomy will be the focus of October’s First Friday Program on Friday, October 3. Dr. Jeanne Audet will begin the program with a briefing in the Conservancy offices at 8 p.m. Participants will then board the Conservancy trucks for a trip to the field, where they will have the opportunity for a guided experience under the stars, weather permitting. …The May River Golf Club is hosting a Couples Golf Outing for golf members on Sundays through November 23. Beginning at 2 p.m., this event features a friendly 9-hole contest followed by food and prizes in the May River Grill. Cost is $25 per person. … The Golf Club is offering a Members’ Golf Outing to the TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida on October 5-6. Designed for golf members and invited guests, the trip costs $461.30 per person, which includes welcome reception and dinner, accommodations at the Sawgrass Marriott Resort & Spa (double occupancy), green fee, cart, forecaddie, caddie gratuity, driving range, bag tag with yardage book and all taxes. Tyler Florence’s Lowcountry Celebration will be held November 21-23. … The Palmetto Bluff Turkey Trot, a Thanksgiving Weekend 5K run, will be held on Friday, November 28. The first 50 registered participants will receive a 2008 5K Turkey Trot t-shirt. The Longfield Stables Cross-Country Course is now open for schooling. The 45-acre training field includes a water complex, bank jumps, coffin, sunken road and trakehner. The level of difficulty ranges from Beginner Novice through Training Level. Palmetto Bluff property owners are able to trailer-in their horses for schooling at Longfield Stables at no charge, and receive a 30% discount on temporary stabling. … Effective September 1, the Palmetto Bluff Preservation Trust and Palmetto Bluff Club will begin charging interest on all past due statement balances. Interest will be charged at 12% per year or 1% per month on all balances more than one month past due. This policy applies to balances for Preservation Trust assessments, neighborhood assessments, Palmetto Bluff Club dues, May River Golf Club dues and charges made to property owner accounts at any Palmetto Bluff facility.

… The May River Grill is now offering breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. All Palmetto Bluff Club members are welcome.
