… A Property Owner Orientation will be held on Friday, December 7 in the River House Wine Cellar. This quarterly event is a great opportunity for owners to meet the management team and gain a greater understanding of the services of the Property Owners Association, Palmetto Bluff Club, May River Golf Club, Inn and Conservancy. A continental breakfast begins at 9:00 a.m., followed by the program at 10:00 a.m., lunch at noon and an optional Open House at the Design Review Center. … A Property Owner Grace Cruise will be held on Friday, December 7 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Please R.S.V.P. by December 5 to Nick Dennis (843.706.6603, email).

“Birding Basics” will be the topic of the First Friday Program on December 7. In preparation for the Audubon Christmas Bird Count on December 15, Oldfield Naturalist Marvin Bouknight will discuss tips for identifying species found on Palmetto Bluff. The program begins at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel.

… The 2007 Holiday Coastal Cottage, located at 43 Myrtle View Street in The Point, is open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and noon to 4:00 p.m. on Sundays through January 4. A $10 contribution per person benefits the Bluffton Historical Preservation Society. Look for a feature on the Holiday Coastal Cottage in the December editions of Coastal Living and Cottage Living magazines.

… The Audubon Christmas Bird Count will be held on Saturday, December 15. This annual property-wide survey will begin in Wilson Village at 8:30 a.m. To participate, please R.S.V.P. to Kimberly Andrews (843.706.6032, email) by 5:00 p.m. on December 14.

Christmas in the Village will be held on Saturday, December 15 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The event will include horse-drawn carriage rides, a Lowcountry artists’ exhibition, photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus (arriving at noon), ornament making, cookie decorating and Grace cruises at 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. Cruise tickets are $20 per person, with proceeds benefitting the Bluffton Boys & Girls Club. Attendees are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy for Bluffton Self Help and other local charities.

… A Kayak Outing and Holiday Lunch will be held at Moreland Landing on Sunday, December 16. Kayakers will meet at the Inn Dock at 12:00 p.m. for the trip to Moreland. No paddling experience is necessary, but shuttle transportation will be provided for those who prefer to travel over land. Cost is $55 per person. … The Chapel will host two Christmas Church Services on Monday, December 24, beginning at 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Dress is casual.

… Congratulations to Mark and Donna Gonsalves, winners of the 2007 May River Golf Club Championship on November 10-11. The Gonsalves are repeat champions, having also won last year’s titles in the men’s and women’s divisions. Other 2007 winners were Bruce Issadore in the first flight, Butch Floyd in the second flight and John Henderson in the third flight.

… A new Conservancy brochure, Living with Alligators, will also be mailed along with the handbook and calendar. The brochure is the first in a series, “Living with Wildlife,” addressing how to share Palmetto Bluff with specific forms of wildlife that inhabit the property, including information on basic biology of the animals, answers to common questions, and simple “Do’s and Don’ts”. Production work is underway on the second brochure in the series, Living with Snakes.

… Beginning January 1, Hargray Communications will offer property owners a Palmetto Bluff-specific data package with basic Internet/high-speed data service of 5Mbps (compared to the current standard of 3Mbps in other local communities) and the capability to increase speed up to 20Mbps. The bandwidth-on-demand increases are available in 30-day increments, allowing owners greater flexibility in their data service.

… Statements for 2008 general and neighborhood assessments, Palmetto Bluff Club dues and May River Golf Club dues will be mailed on December 15. Payments will be considered delinquent if not paid in full by January 15 (except for Wilson Center and West Wilson Trust assessments, which are billed on a quarterly basis). If assessments remain unpaid on February 15, a 12% interest charge will begin accruing. If payment is 90 days late, a letter will be issued initiating a lien process against the property.

… Palmetto Bluff requires that all dogs be leashed when outdoors, with the exception of Calder Park. As the population grows, an increasing number of unleashed dogs have been observed on the property. Some of these dogs are accompanied by their owners, while others are simply running at large. Dog owners are asked to comply with the leash policy. If you see a dog running at large, please call Security at 843.706.6000.
