Turtle Mark-Recapture Workshop
Help the Conservancy’s Environmental Team and herpetologists from the Savannah River Ecology Laboratory (SREL) conduct a Mark-Release-Recapture turtle trapping survey. This research is designed to identify and count the species of turtles in our ponds, as well as how the population is structured in terms of age and sex. Today's outing will consist of setting “hoop” traps for turtles at various pond and wetland sites. Participants are encouraged to attend both sessions if possible.
Location: To be announced

Today's outing will consist of measuring the turtles that were caught yesterday and marking each one with a unique identifier (a harmless technique called “shell notching” that will allow us to identify the turtle if it is caught again in the future).
